Bikes and books and boardgames...!
I had to take the bike in for its 12,000 mile service today which entailed new spark-plugs, a new air filter, new coolant and oil etc £300 all told (ouch!)

But whilst it was at the garage, I took a wander up Shirley High Road in Southampton and visited various of the charity shops there.

I managed to pick up seven books which either I was interested in reading or that I wanted copies of:

There two by Kathy Reichs in her Bones series that the TV series is (extremely loosely) based on.

One by Iain M Banks in his Culture Series.

And "Barry Trotter and the Unnecessary Sequel" (a follow up to Barry Trotter and the Shameless Parody which is actually not bad :-) )

There was also Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell (a book that really needed better editing for brevity, but none the less is an interesting and original take on an old idea) and The Runes of the Earth by Stephen Donaldson the first book of The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, which demonstrates that it is possible (if not entirely desirable) to use the word crepuscular (meaning twilight) about a couple of dozen times in one book!

Finally I picked up a rather nice game called Skribble which is sort of the opposite of Pictionary where, instead of you drawing something whilst the other member of your team tries to guess what it is, they give you instructions on what to draw (eg draw a square, now draw a triangle on top, point upwards, now draw four squares in from each corner and a vertical rectangle at the bottom in the middle) and you have to figure out that it's a house...!

I'll have to take it down to [info]watervole's next time there's a games weekend on :-)
